Goal Setting for 2011

Happy New Year from Professional Advantage!
This time of year many organizations revisit, evaluate and set goals for the year to come. The key is to make sure you meet those goals! One of our partners with whom I coach, Tools 2 Transform, has some great suggestions when setting goals.

Set S.M.A.R.T. goals:

Specific – you’ll know when you accomplished itMeasurable – you’ll know the extent to which you accomplished it
Aligned – with your values, mission and vision
Reachable – there’s challenge involved, but it’s do-able
Timed – create a deadline

It's Never Too Late to Appreciate

While each of your team members, staff or employees has different motivational needs,  Christmas is a great time to set aside an opportunity to honor and acknowledge them for all the hard work they have put in this year. It doesn't always have to be a lavish office party that, thanks to so many stereotypes on TV, are awkward or often times "go awry." Maybe it is a Christmas party. Maybe it's personalized cards to them, in your own handwriting, thanking them for their loyalty to the company and hard work this year. It could be a Christmas bonus or dinner out. Your ideas I'm sure will fluctuate based on budget and team size, but the most important factor is that as their leader, you take the time to communicate (through words, actions, gifts, time) that you see them, value them, appreciate them.

...and it's never too late. Didn't get to do all that you had hoped for before the rush of Christmas? Have some new ideas? New Year's is a great time to pick up the celebration as you begin your fiscal year. It's never too late to appreciate.
